Still Life

Emily Mann’s Still Life is a harshly realistic testimony dedicated to “the casualties of war–all of them.” This six-time Obie Award-winning drama uses the Vietnam War as a backdrop to an unflinching documentary play in which an ex-Marine Vietnam veteran, his Catholic, pregnant wife and his lover illustrate the traumatic memories of the violence that took place during a time of such national and international turmoil. Closely based on three interviews conducted by Mann in the late 1970s, Still Life is a harrowing exploration of how war exists, not only between countries, but also within a home or a person.
