Pegasus Theatre is pleased to produce Nathan Alan Davis’ Dontrell, Who Kissed The Sea. Blending poetry, humor, wordplay and ritual, Dontrell, Who Kissed the Sea is a hero’s quest to explore the journey to redeem history’s misdeeds. Eighteen-year-old Dontrell Jones the Third decides his duty and destiny is to venture into the Atlantic Ocean in search of an ancestor lost during the Middle Passage. However, his family is not at all ready to abandon their prized son to the waters of a mysterious and haunting past.
The cast of Dontrell, Who Kissed the Sea includes Blake Dupree (Dontrell); Maya Abram (Mom); David Goodloe (Dad); Aja Singletary (Shea); Emma Wineman (Erika); Aundria TraNay (Danielle) and Zay Williams (Robby). About the Artists
Blake Dupree (Dontrell) Theatre credits include “Peewee” in The Other Cinderella (Black Ensemble Theatre). Blake has also worked with eta, Harold Washington Cultural Center, Chicago State University Theater, and Chicago Dramatist. He has earned several awards and nominations including two Black Theater Alliance Award nominations and an African American Arts Alliance Award nomination for his portrayal of Mikey in Michelle Renee Bester’s Grandmas Jukebox. He is a full time musical artist and content creator. He thanks his team, family, and friends for their constant support.
Maya Abram (Mom) is a Chicago based actor originally from Nashville, TN. She is excited to be making her debut with Pegasus Theatre! Abram is an alum of Northwestern’s MFA program. Select Chicago TV and theater credits include: Chicago Fire (NBC), Night Sky (Amazon), Routes (Remy Bumppo, U/S), Boulevard of Bold Dreams (Timeline, U/S) and Exit Strategy (NU Theater). David Goodloe (Dad) is excited to return to Pegasus for Dontrell, Who Kissed the Sea! He is an actor, teaching artist and storyteller born and raised in Chicago; who has been acting professionally for over a decade. He has appeared on Chicago Fire, Chicago Med & Chicago PD (Wolf Films/Universal Television), Proven Innocent (20th Century Fox), D.I.N.K’s (Sole Productions), Thanks Mom (Breakwall Pictures LLC), Perceptions & Morning After (Acestroke Productions). Recent theater credits include The Art of Bowing (Haven Chicago), Fairview (Definition Theatre), Ironbound (The Artistic Home), and Mlima’s Tale (Griffin Theatre). He has worked with various production companies such as August Jackson Agency, Draft/FCB, Twist, T2 Studios, Back Ally Films, Crossroads Films, One at Optimus, Mothlight productions, and Elkhorn Entertainment. Aja Singletary (Shea) returns to Pegasus Theatre for a second time! Her recent theatre credits include: Last Stop on Market Street (YPTC), Nacirema Society (Goodman), Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story (Marriott), Is God Is (Red Orchid) Factotum (Lyric), Athena (Writers Theatre), Relentless (Timeline), Dance Nation (Steppenwolf), and Eclipsed (Pegasus). Aundria TraNay (Danielle) is a Chicago native who received her BFA in Acting from AMDA College and Conservatory of the Performing Arts. Recent Chicago credits include: Young Playwrights Festival 37’ (Pegasus Theatre), Scorpio (Perceptions Theatre), cullud wattah (U/S, Victory Gardens Theatre) and Lorraine (Prairie Center for the Arts). She is passionate about spreading the importance of mental health in the arts and creating stories to amplify that message. She is also a singer and acting coach. She is represented by Lori Lins LTD.
Zay Williams (Robby) is a Senior BFA Acting Major at Dobbins Conservatory of Theatre & Dance. He is beyond grateful to be a part of this production and making his Chicago debut! Previous credits include Much Ado About Nothing, SpongeBob The Musical, and Chasuble The Importance of Being Earnest. Zay would like to thank his family & friends for their continued support!
Emma Wineman (Erika) is absolutely thrilled to be joining the cast of Dontrell, Who Kissed the Sea! Since moving to Chicago from San Diego, Emma has performed at both The Second City and Drunk Shakespeare where she spent over a year in the cast as Macduff. Off-stage, you can find Emma collaborating with her band GLDN.RATIO as a singer/ songwriter, teaching Zumba, or trying to find the new hottest spot with an oyster happy hour.
