Pegasus Theatre is pleased to produce Nathan Alan Davis’ Dontrell, Who Kissed The Sea. Blending poetry, humor, wordplay and ritual, Dontrell, Who Kissed the Sea is a hero’s quest to explore the journey to redeem history’s misdeeds. Eighteen-year-old Dontrell Jones the Third decides his duty and destiny is to venture into the Atlantic Ocean in search of an ancestor lost during the Middle Passage. However, his family is not at all ready to abandon their prized son to the waters of a mysterious and haunting past.
The cast of Dontrell, Who Kissed the Sea includes Blake Dupree (Dontrell); Maya Abram (Mom); David Goodloe (Dad); Aja Singletary (Shea); Emma Wineman (Erika); Aundria TraNay (Danielle) and Zay Williams (Robby). The production team includes ILesa Duncan (director); Wynn Lee (scenic); Brenden Marble (lights); Eme Ospina-Lopez (projections); Chris Kriz (sound); Paloma Locsin (props); Tanji Harper (choreography); Maya V. Prentiss (Trauma/fight coordinator), India Burton (associate director), Faramade Oladapo (Yoruba consultant); Caitlyn Birmingham (stage manager) and Addoris J. Davis (production manager).

CAN’T SLEEP by Alexander Loaiza | Directed by Enrico Spada In order to stave off the grief of his dog dying James pretends he’s in a happy kids television show. Can he acknowledge his childhood traumas and awake from his dream?
YOU’RE LIKE, DEAD by Ella Johnson | Directed bty ILesa Duncan Richard, a socially awkward man, accidentally dies and lands in the afterlife where he encounters Death and soon realizes they are both grappling with the same struggle.
The 37th Annual Young Playwrights Festival runs Thursday, Jan. 4 – Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024, at Chicago Dramatists, 798 N. Aberdeen. The press opening Saturday, Jan. 6 at 7:00pm. and an Opening Ceremony, Sunday, Jan. 6 at 2:30pm. After the opening, public performances continue on Fridays at 7:00pm, Saturdays at 2:30pm and 7:00pm.
